Thai pm survives no confidence vote

THAILAND — A high-profile politician on the Thai island of Phuket faces no confidence in parliament after backing the ruling UMP party in an apparent attempt to halt its victory in the Oct. 1 election.

Uma Thongpanek, who has held the post since 2014, told Parliament the result showed the two main opposition parties were united despite a poor showing in regional elections, such as in western T바카라사이트hailand’s Thongvang district.

Thailand has been gripped by an economic crisis since March when a thaw broke between the ruling party and a large-scale anti-government uprising. The coup, triggered by a long-time opposition leader, was followed by violent street battles between security forces and the coup opponents. The war is now raging in many areas of the impoverished Southeast Asian nation, with about one-third of the population living on less than a dollar a day.

“The government has done nothing to help me,” she told Parliament. “It is time for my party to lead in this election. The only way to make progress is to stand together and unite around a common goal.”

A majority government, she added, was necessary for Thailand’s recovery from the economic crisis.

Thailand’s Thongvang, one of the most populous provinces in Asia, has been badly hit by the economic turmoil. The country has seen a massi바카라사이트ve influx of immigrants from China and Vietnam who helped rebuild its infrastructure, mostly through subsidized Chinese tourism.
